KU vs. Mizzou - the most heated rivalry no one has ever heard of?

I grew up a huge Mizzou Basketball fan so I know a little something about the rivalry but you are right, I don't think there are many who know how bad Kansas is hated in the show me state. It's more of a basketball rivalry than a football rivalry until now.

Heck I didn't know it went back that far and just exactly what happened, man that was brutal.

I wish Mizzou would get it together in basketball. I had/have alot of respect for Roy, but Bill Self can get ran over by a bus for all I care.

That is quite possibly the most ridiculous story I've ever heard trying to tie crap that went on brfoe and durning the Civil War to a sport that wasn't even around back then. That is about like trying to tie a Skins-Panthers game somehow to the beginning of the civil war at Ft. Sumter....OR a VT_WVU game to John Brown's execution at Spears Ferry..lol. Just because neither of the schools are high profile, and really haven't much to put on a T-shirt bragging of football dominance, AND the fact that the Big 12 is a VERY mediocre conference that no one but the polls really seem to care about (unless your name is Oklahoma, Nebraska, or Texas) on a yearly basis, there is no need to go cite events that happened 150 years ago (years before football was EVER PLAYED) as the basis for a rivalry. This story is someone grasping at straws. (IMO Kansas doesn't go undefeated).

Actually that is the basis of the OSU vs. Michigan rivalry. There was a border war over the town of Toledo way back when the state lines were fighting for expansion. I think there was a bloody massacre involved so the hatred between Ohio and Michigan goes back to pre-football and carried over into football.

Yeah, but still...relating events that happened between to places to a sport that came along afterwards IMO is just a way to blow up the rivalry. I mean, the post is interesting and all, it's just that I think it gets ridiculous when they try to tie stuff like that in. No one will be going to OSU-Michigan wanting revenge for an actual massacre...they just want a win over their rival. If historic wrongs make a rivalry...eveyone has a rivalry with nearly everyone they play..lol.

Ahhh...the ancient inhabitants of the new world used to play variations of lacrosse and soccer and sacrifice the losing team's "captain"...and sometimes the whole team. Now, IMO, that would make for a good rivalry!..j/k
